The Comstock Lode in the Virginia Range was the first major discovery of silver in the United States.
Comstock Inc. has acquired the most significant portions of the historic silver and gold mining district and is combining more than 150 years of mining data with advanced sensing technology positioned in space.
On November 11th, Comstock Inc. launched a hyperspectral imaging satellite into orbit aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 Transporter Rocket. This move is expected to significantly boost their data collection capabilities and help them uncover even more valuable resources in the area.
“The recent satellite launch was a huge milestone. To be able to build a satellite, get space on the SpaceX rocket, deploy it safely, establish a ground link, and now be ready to start scanning is really a breakthrough for us,” said Comstock Inc. Executive Chairman and CEO Corrado De Gasperis.
Comstock Inc. has made history as the first mining company to integrate space-based, advanced hyperspectral sensing with extensive geological records. They have joined forces with GenMat, the company behind the Hyperspectral Remote Sensing Imaging (HRSI) satellite system. GenMat is also working on a “physics-based artificial intelligence” that will enable them to essentially see what lies beneath the surface.
“Taking 150 years worth of geological, geostatistical, geophysical data feeding the AI, teaching it if you will, adding to it hyperspectral imaging from space, right where it can show us chemistries, physical properties we cannot see with our own eyes and building a predictive model,” said De Gasperis.
Comstock is at the forefront of introducing innovative technologies in various industries with a focus on promoting environmental sustainability and reducing carbon emissions
“Instead of disruptive drilling that’s pervasive, you will start to identify targets much more intelligently using historical data, using more advanced data, using the AI to predict,” said De Gaasperis.
This new project in the Virginia Range is a significant step towards establishing Northern Nevada as a premier ecosystem in the emerging sustainable energy industry. This new technology will be applied to sectors like agriculture, lithium, and rare earth minerals.
“We’re advancing the opportunity to double and triple the ounces we’re finding just beneath Virginia City. What that could mean to Nevada, which is the fourth largest producer of gold in the world, would be earth-shattering,” said De Gasperis.
The satellite orbits the Earth every 90 minutes, capturing detailed images of the Comstock mining district.
