On 17 November 2023, the Regional Centre For Mapping Of Resources For Development (RCMRD) unveiled its state-of-the-art complex and the Regional Training Institute (RCTI) hostel. The Infrastructures, designed to foster research, learning, and collaboration, were unveiled by Honourable Alice Wahome, the Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, on behalf of His Excellency Dr William Samoei Ruto, the President of Kenya.
Several stakeholders, including members of the RCMRD Governing Council and the Governing Council Technical Committee, graced the Inaugural event. According to the Director-General of RCMRD, Dr Emmanuel Nkurunziza, “ With support from the governing council, for the past six years, we have embarked on initiatives that have fostered the profile of RCMRD, significantly improved its financial position, expanded its services and products to members and enable benefiting partnerships. The infrastructure expansion is a testament to the growth the institute has experienced for the past few years. One such initiative is the training programmes implemented for which we are commissioning the hostel. From being an ICT centre to being a fully equipped training centre, the RCTI is RCMRD’s latest addition. The facility also offers accredited diploma and certificate courses to over 1000 students’’.
This development will encourage practical skills development, catering to individuals seeking specific training or skill enhancement, including surveying, remote sensing, GIS and other related fields. In addition, this advancement advances RCMRD’s emphasis on fostering an environment conducive to learning and innovation, promoting regional research and development projects.
