State Grid Huzhou Power Supply Company is using its rooftop solar photovoltaic resources through the independently developed Photovoltaic Eye platform to optimize the potential of solar clean energy.
The Photovoltaic Eye platform, based on the State Grid’s new energy cloud platform, utilizes high-resolution remote sensing satellites to calculate the available area of photovoltaic panels on building rooftops and can also evaluate the potential for solar energy development. It employs artificial intelligence technology and high-resolution remote sensing image interpretation methods to visually identify the development status of rooftop solar resources through red, blue and green colors.
With the help of the platform, this year the State Grid Huzhou Power Supply Company has completed the evaluation of over 44 million square meters of rooftop solar resources in Deqing county, Huzhou city, and has identified an available area of 37.96 million sq m with a theoretical installed capacity of 3.82 million kilowatts.
After calculating the solar resources, the platform can provide development plans for public institutions and enterprises by estimating the installation and maintenance costs and electricity generation data, and provide commercial services such as photovoltaic project construction and energy conservation for developers. As of now, State Grid Huzhou Power Supply Company has completed trials and verifications for multiple companies.

“Based on the Photovoltaic Eye platform, we have also developed a comprehensive index to present the health status for distributed photovoltaics, completed operational assessment of 280 distributed photovoltaic power stations and generated photovoltaic health examination reports, helping 50 photovoltaic users raise their electricity generation income by 1.85 million yuan ($254,985.5),” said Yao Bo, a staff member of State Grid Huzhou Power Supply Company.
As the birthplace of the concept of “Clear waters and green mountains are as good as mountains of gold and silver”, Huzhou in East China’s Zhejiang province has made great efforts to build itself into a demonstration city in the area. By fulfilling corporate social responsibility, it promotes energy production and consumption toward an eco-friendly path, guides companies in energy conservation and consumption reduction, and has introduced a “zero carbon” index for public buildings while empowering construction of a beautiful Huzhou with green electricity.
