China’s commercial space sector has seen rapid growth over the past 10 years, with well over a dozen launch companies, a similar number of satellite manufacturers, and a bunch of other companies being established at all parts of the value chain. One of the areas that sometimes goes overlooked, however, is remote sensing, where a combination of high-level government policies, significant commercial interest, and readily available tech transfer has led to China producing some of the leading companies in the sector. This has extended from Earth observation (EO) satellite manufacturing, to operation, all the way down to data analytics and applications, and the trend seems to be just getting started.
